The Original 2007 Mixer, Emulated

This is not a recreation. This is the actual mixer.swf that Jamglue served in November 2007, recovered off the old static.jamglue.com bucket and running here under Ruffle, an open source Flash player written in Rust. The file has not been touched. Everything it asks its server for, the mix description, the waveform strips, the stem audio, is answered by a handful of static files pretending to be the Rails app that went dark in 2010.

The mix loaded here is Bartender, the eight official stems from the August 2007 T-Pain remix contest. Press play, drag clips around the timeline, mute and solo, pull the volume and pan faders. It behaves the way it did, right down to the two second wait before the first stem is ready. The Web Audio recreation is the one to use if you just want to play with the faders; this one is here because it is the real thing.

What is missing. SAVE, SAVE A COPY, the mix details page and the help tour all talked to jamglue.com, and there is nothing there to talk to. Those four are covered here, so clicking one says so instead of hanging on a spinner. "Add Stuff to this Mix", at the bottom of the track list, wanted to send you off to the track browser and now simply does nothing. Everything else, including the clip editing and the mixdown you hear, runs for real.

The clock drifts. The stems are eight separate MP3s started together, the way the original did it, and over four minutes they wander a little. The 2007 site papered over this by rendering the final mixdown on the server. Here you are listening to the browser do it live, drift and all.

Provenance. mixer.swf was recovered from static.jamglue.com, which is still serving files off S3. The stems are the official "Bartender" contest stems distributed by Jamglue in 2007, T-Pain featuring Akon, Jive Records, released under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA. The waveform strips and avatars on this page were generated from those stems; the original server-rendered ones are gone. Emulation is by Ruffle (ruffle.rs), MIT and Apache 2.0 licensed, bundled here rather than loaded from anyone else's server.
