The UGK “Da Game Been Good To Me” Remix Contest
In spring 2009, Jamglue and Jive Records opened up “Da Game Been Good To Me,” a track from UGK’s posthumous UGK 4 Life, for remixing. Five separate audio tracks went online alongside an official contest mix, entries were published straight into Jamglue, and Bun B and UGK’s camp picked the grand prize winner from the top hundred vote-getters. The Wayback Machine caught the page early, on April 3, 2009, when 104 entries had been created. By the time the results version was archived on January 4, 2010, the counter read 700.
Everything below comes from those two captures of the same URL: one while the contest was running, one after the winners were named.
About the Contest
“Jamglue is excited to bring you a remix contest featuring ‘Let it out’ by Jive Records recording artist UGK.” The song name in that opening line is wrong; the rest of the page, the banner and the official rules all say “Da Game Been Good To Me.” The four steps read as follows on April 3, 2009:
Enter the contest by creating your own version of the official contest mix. The easiest way to do this is to click the “Start Mixing Now!” button and then “SAVE A COPY” in the Mixer.
Remix the song by adding new sounds, rearranging the clips, etc. using the Jamglue Mixer. You can even add your own voice using the Jamglue Recorder in the Mixer. Be creative, and don’t forget to publish your mix when you’re done so that people can vote for it!
Promote your mix - embed it in your MySpace and email a link to all of your friends. When someone marks your mix as a Favorite, that counts as a vote. The 100 mixes with the most votes will be in the running for prizes, so break out your address book and encourage your friends to vote for yours!

None of the six audio files survives. Jamglue kept contest audio behind a sign-in and, unlike the 2007 T-Pain stems, no crawler ever reached these. By the January 2010 capture the contest mix is already flagged [Disabled] on the page.
Licensing. This one did not run on Creative Commons. The official rules had entrants register with Jamglue to get the audio, prohibited downloading it, and licensed only what the contest itself needed: reproduce, edit, distribute, publicly perform and create derivative works of the “Sponsor Content,” with the public authorized to receive the results as on-demand streams and nothing else. Winning mixes carried a bespoke “UGK Contest Entry License” on their mix pages.
The Prizes
“The Grand Prize winning remix will be chosen by UGK. The winner gets their remix featured on UGK’s MySpace, as well as the complete UGK catalog with an autographed copy of ‘UGK 4 Life.’ Ten runners up get an autographed ‘UGK 4 Life’ album and Jamglue sticker pack.”
The judging ran in two stages: the public voted by marking mixes as a Favorite, the hundred most-favorited became the finalists, and UGK or their representatives scored those on originality (25%), creativity (25%), concept (25%) and presentation (25%). Estimated combined retail value of the prizes, per the rules: $500.
The rules and the page disagree about how many people won. Section 4 provides for one Grand Prize Winner and one Runner Up; the page promised ten runners up, and ten is what the results page named.

Its own page was archived on April 29, 2009, five days before the deadline, and it is the most detailed record of any single entry in this contest: 82 bpm, 6:29 long, 6.0 MB as an MP3, listened to 734 times, rated 4.3 out of 5 across 44 ratings, and published as a copy of the official contest mix. Tha_Revolution was a collective, and the description credits the mix out by verse: Snoop Dogg mixed by Burner197, Ludacris by Perupimpin, Lupe Fiasco by Steve, 2Pac by Scalia5, Slim Thug by Willman. It also grumbles about the licensing: “Usually for a collabo mix, we use the original mix components, but due to the homo contest license rules, we can’t use other people’s content or content without the UGK license.”

What survives: eleven names, eleven titles, and six of the eleven mix pages in the Wayback Machine. No audio at all. The five missing entrants (mexicaninthe239, lil2sam, DJ_DopeBoy, CMONEY414, Lurch09) exist in the archive only as a line on this results page: the crawler reached their mixes as nothing more than the small hover popover the site used for its play buttons, never the pages themselves.
