The Dolla “Who the F**k Is That” Remix Contest
“Jamglue is excited to bring you a remix contest featuring ‘Who the F**k is That’ by Jive Records recording artist Dolla.” The single, a DJ Montay production featuring T-Pain and Tay Dizm, was climbing the charts in spring 2008 off Dolla’s debut Dolla & A Dream. Jamglue and the Zomba Label Group put the session up on March 31, 2008 and left it open for six weeks.
This one was thin on stems, just an instrumental and an acapella next to the contest mix, and it still drew 362 entries in the first week and 1,354 by the last archived count. The Grand Prize was the most personal Jamglue ever listed: a phone call from the artist.
The Materials
“Here’s what you have to work with.” The contest page listed the official contest mix plus two separate tracks:

What survives: the track list and the track IDs, from the archived contest page. Neither file was ever crawled, so there is no audio to play here.
Licensing. As with the T-Pain contest the year before, the rules licensed the tracks under CC BY-NC-SA 2.5 with all other rights reserved by the Zomba Label Group, required attribution to Dolla and Zomba, and required every entry to be published under the same license.
The four-step pitch on the page was the standard Jamglue one, and step three was the part that decided five of the six prizes: “Promote your mix, embed it in your MySpace and email a link to all of your friends. The First Prize winning mixes are determined by how many people mark them as a Favorite, so break out your address book and encourage your friends to vote for yours!”
The Prizes
“Dolla will pick the Grand Prize winner! The winner will receive an autographed Dolla poster, their remix featured on Dolla’s MySpace page, and a congratulatory phone call from Dolla himself!”
“You and other Jamglue users will vote for 5 First Prize winners! The winners will get cool stuff too!” The official rules were more specific: each First Prize was a Jamglue T-shirt. By the time the results were posted the page called them Popular Vote winners and described the prize as “a Jamglue prize pack including a T-shirt and stickers.”

Grand Prize
Who is that remix by Dolla feat Desia by aisenod
“This was Dolla’s personal favorite! The winning remix will be featured on Dolla’s MySpace, and aisenod gets a phone call from Dolla himself, and an autographed poster. Congratulations, aisenod!”
aisenod had won a First Prize in the J.R. Writer contest a few months earlier, also with a mix featuring the vocalist Desia; this time it was the artist’s pick.
Popular Vote
“Our Popular Vote winners were chosen by you, the Jamglue community! Winners get a Jamglue prize pack including a T-shirt and stickers.”
What survives: the six names, the six titles, and an archived mix page for every one of them. The audio does not, and the stray quotation mark in RPproductionz’s title is the original’s, kept here as it was typed. Whether the phone call happened is not recorded anywhere in the public archive.
About Dolla
The bio the label supplied for the contest page, quoted as it ran:
“Dolla may only be 20 but his age shouldn’t fool you. Unlike most MC’s these days, Dolla, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, began his musical journey in his early teens. Forming a group called Da Razkals Cru with friends Scrappy and Sas, a 12 year-old Dolla rapped in showcases around his Atlanta, Georgia hometown.”
“After a year of working on the album, Akon was instrumental in pulling together Dolla’s newest hit, ‘Who The F**k Is That?’ featuring chart champion, T-Pain and newcomer, Tay Dizm.”
“My music is universal,” says the 20 year-old. “I can do street music or pop music. But whatever I do, I attempt to make meaningful songs with substance.”
